Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

After the release of the new Yahoo! homepage, the site now opened its door to mobile browsers. Yahoo!’s newest homepage, which is more on personalization, is also integrated on its mobile counterpart.

The noticeable part of the mobile version of the Yahoo! homepage is the site’s categories – Today, My Favorites and All Sites. The two categories, Today and All Sites are all Yahoo!-sponsored sites while My Favorites is like your personal dashboard where you can insert your own choices of buttons. This is similar to the PC site where you can see your own tabs on the left side.

Though the personal touch of the new Yahoo! site is now incorporated on its mobile version, you’re My Favorites tabs on the PC site are not yet installed if you’re about to view on the mobile site.
In anyways, the new Yahoo! mobile site is truly personal-oriented site where you can own the homepage and add up your favorites!

Yahoo! Improves Local Shortcut

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

Yahoo! now gave an amazing power to searchers to get the most on their searches. With Yahoo!’s improved Local Shortcut, businesses can now assure that their customers and would-be customers can get the feedbacks on their services and products and eventually, gave them the direction to visit their location.

Yahoo!’s new Local Shortcut expands its former ability. Now, searchers can not just check how many reviews or ratings a particular establishment has, they can actually read the whole text of these reviews and even get to see other details such as photos and directions to the establishment.

This new service will eventually be improved as Yahoo! close the deal with Microsoft which will provide more information to particular establishments. Truly, Yahoo!’s continuous improvements gave both the consumers and businesses the advantage of using their site.

Yahoo’s newest Homepage is Personal!

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

Yahoo! is continuously improving its site. Recently, Yahoo! released its newest homepage that is to attract more readers and visitors. With others competing on the same genre, Yahoo! is gearing up to match their competitors.

Yahoo! redesigns its homepage and makes it more user-friendly and easily customisable. So much to say, it is personal!

The site is, on first glance, less cluttered. So relaxing it may seem, it still holds the same amount of information it used to have. Yahoo! certainly gives the best homepage so far.

Buttons and modules are lesser on the new version while search is more prominent. Yahoo! properties situated on the left side of the old version are now in a customisable menu which can be turn into an RSS reader. Users can add or remove widgets or applications from third party sites.

Yahoo! also created a wide range of widgets for launch and is accepting users’ suggestions so long as it has RSS capability. Third party developers are also expected to add more in the future.

The My Favorite Section also allows users to get a smaller window as screenshot of that particular third-party site. Users can even interact with that window, for example, if the site is for Twitter or Facebook.

The news on the homepage can also be adjusted on the user’s mood or type – from fun to to serious by just sliding the scale!

The new homepage will also be applied to mobile soon and will be first available to US followed by UK, India, France and other countries.

Yahoo to sell HotJobs and Small Business?

Friday, July 31st, 2009

hotjobs
To stay in the business, Yahoo! is trying to focus on things where they get more revenue and upgrade these while trying to sell others that are not doing great for the company.

Yahoo! has been partnering and dealing with lots of companies to keep its status in the market. Just recently, it partners with AT&T for advertisement displays for small business advertising. This good deal will certainly help Yahoo!

HotJobs, on the other hand, is not doing great. Though it is also known that even with newspapers, this part in there is also declining in terms of revenue, HotJobs can be a big burden to Yahoo! if they will continue to handle this. According to reports, HotJobs was acquired by Yahoo! back in 2001 for $436.

Yahoo! Small Business is Yahoo!’s asset. It is one of the biggest in webhosting firms in the SMB market. It still provides revenue to the company that’s why it’s still unbelievable that Yahoo! is planning to sell this asset. Also, Yahoo! just got a deal with AdReady for SMBs to easily create their own ads which will run on Yahoo! network. With this step, it’s unimaginable that the company is ready to give up Small Business to others.

Whatever the plans of Yahoo! for its affiliates, Yahoo! still has the say on which to stay and which to give up. Maybe they have their own studies that in the coming years, they certainly don’t have the power to control that market and should be given to the leading ones.
